Advertising: A Creative Market

Innovative Business Creative Class Educated

Creative agencies thrive in Minneapolis. From advertising and marketing to design and printing, choice companies line the city streets, producing some of the most remarkable work in the country.

A Creative History
The Advertising Federation of Minnesota originated over 100 years ago as the Minneapolis Publicity Club. Ever since, they have served local businesses and the community through a balanced combination of creative energy and ethical decision-making.

One of the first ad clubs to join the American Advertising Federation, the association also pioneered a Vigilance Committee to protect consumers from untrue or deceptive advertising. The committee’s standards inspired the creation of the Better Business Bureau.

And the Winner is…
Fallon Worldwide boasts more creative awards than any other agency in the world. "Outsmart vs. Outspend" means many things to Founder and Chairman Pat Fallon.

Outsmarting the competition since beginning the Minneapolis-based company in 1981, Fallon produces high-quality, memorable branding campaigns using revolutionary techniques. Fallon and Founding Partner Fred Senn describe the creative genius necessary to succeed in the book "Juicing the Orange: How to Turn Creativity into a Powerful Business Advantage." Clientele includes the Islands of the Bahamas, NBC, Purina and Cartier.

Long Live Creativity
The advertising agency Campbell Mithun, founded in 1933 by Ralph Campbell and Raymond Mithun, currently resides in downtown Minneapolis in a tower with the same name. While their current client list includes Breyers, General Mills and Wells Fargo, they have been creating memorable slogans for years.

Dairy Queen’s slogan "We treat you right" was penned at Campbell Mithun, so was H&R Block’s phrase "You Got People." Then of course there are the Tresemme commercials with the catchy tune "Tresemme, Tresemme, Oo la la." Who could forget such trademarks? No one. That’s the sign of an advertiser’s job well done.

Creative Education
Miami Ad School: Calling for fame generators, trendsetters and game changers - people they like to think of as “Pop Culture Engineers”. Which is why they are known as the School of Pop Culture Engineering. It's not just a school of advertising: it's design school, creative writing school, art school, portfolio school, photography school, technical school, copywriting school, film school, business school and think tank, all rolled into one.

Brainco: The Minneapolis School of Advertising, Design and Interactive Studies–gives students a chance to explore their creative juices. It’s one of the few "portfolio schools" in the U.S. and trains people for jobs in advertising, design and media arts. Founded in Minneapolis, the company boasts faculty from creative firms such as Duffy Design, Kilter and Carmichael Lynch.
