Be a part of the excitement. Experience the renaissance of Lake Street!
Lake Street, Minneapolis' largest mosaic of cultures, speaks eloquently to the triumphs of immigration to North America over the last century. You will find a world of dining and shopping delights as you travel Lake Street from the Mississippi River to Lake Calhoun.
Shop the World
No visit to Lake Street would be complete without spending an afternoon shopping. Enjoy purchasing reasures from many different cultures at Midtown Global Market, Calhoun Square, Ingebretsen's Scandinavian Gifts and Foods, Roberts Shoes, Mercado Central, Schatzlein Saddle Shop and many more. Mingle in the community and connect to the people who grow our food at the seasonal Midtown Farmers’ Market.
Dine the Globe
Lake Street is a culinary destination like no other, with more than 100 restaurants offering fare that ranges from authentic Mexican, African and Greek cuisines to the Twin Cities’ finest diner, Town Talk. Whether you prefer intimate dining or the bustle of sidewalk cafes, you don’t need to look far to find a restaurant that suits your palate and your budget. Lake Street is home to numerous relaxing patio retreats. Some favorites include The Craftsman, El Norteno and It’s Greek To Me.
Play & Stay On Lake Street
Lake Street has numerous performing arts centers such as In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, Pangea World Theater, Jungle Theater and Bryant Lake Bowl – a restaurant, theater, bar and bowling alley!
Just a few blocks off Lake Street are the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Children’s Theater, and the American Swedish Institute. Annual festivities such as the May Day Parade, Mexican Independence Day, Barbette’s Bastille Day Block Party, as well as the Uptown and Powderhorn Art Fairs are must see events.
On the west is Lake Calhoun, part of the Chain of Lakes and a popular site for fishing, wind surfing, swimming, sailing, canoeing, walking, jogging, biking and in-line skating. The Midtown Greenway offers a quiet place parallel to Lake Street. This 5.7 mile trail gives cyclists an opportunity to safely travel near and along the bustling Lake Street corridor, while enjoying community gardens and outdoor public art along the way. Nightlife in the area is spiced up by a number of clubs with live music and dancing. And when the day is done, you can rest comfortably in the plush accommodations at the Midtown Sheraton.
Lake Street is proud to have an extraordinary collection of restaurants that serve foods from around the world and unique shopping and business venues spread over several commercial areas: Uptown, Lyn-Lake, Midtown and Longfellow.
Despite the unique experience that each area offers, you will soon discover what is common to all—it is the special intimacy that each store/business offers to you. Stroll around and find your favorite! To make it easy, the commercial area is walkable and easily accessible by light rail, bus and the Midtown Greenway. We hope you visit our commercial areas and experience our unique Lake Street flavor.
